School Ethos

Mission Statement

Inspired by the vision of Catherine McAuley, Holy Family School, through a holistic approach, aspires to achieve the full potential of each student, with particular concern for those who are disadvantaged and marginalized. Underpinning this is the Catholic ethos based on truth, justice, tolerance, respect, self-worth and a sense of oneness with the entire Cosmos.

School Rules

It is important to create within the child the desire to respect other people and make choices irrespective of outside pressures. Rules for young children are kept to a minimum.

In our school, children are expected to:

  • respect each other, therefore we discourage all forms of rough play.
  • respect, obey and co-operate with their teachers.
  • do home assignments.
  • use the school furnishings with due care conscious that others will need these facilities.

We encourage good communication between home and school. Newsletters are sent out once a month and reminders regarding school holidays are sent by text. Parent/Teacher meetings take place during the first term for First Class and Senior Infants and during the second term for Junior Infants.

School Attendance

  • Prompt and regular attendance is necessary.
  • Parents are asked to notify the school by note, telephone call or verbal message when a child is absent.
  • If a child has an appointment during school hours, parents are asked to collect the child from his/her classroom.
  • No child is allowed to leave the school grounds without the parents or guardians permission.

Homework Policy

  • To reinforce what the child has learned at school.
  • To provide a link between home and school.
  • To help develop a child’s concentration.
  • Homework is meant to be achievable.
  • Children are expected to do their best … no more, no less.
